Traditionally regarded as the hub of knowledge, the physical libraries are now encountering increasing challenges as a result of the information revolution. Consequently, their utilization by students and the teaching and academic research level supported by physical libraries in universities should be reassessed more critically. Based on the library channel data of 3,072 undergraduates enrolled in 2009 at a university, this essay endeavors to reveal the correlation between students' visiting habits and their academic performance measured by their grade-point average (GPA) and innovative credits data. It is shown that students still visit physical libraries frequently and use these spaces provided as their favorite studying places, yet significant differences exist between students studying sciences and liberal arts as well as among different majors, while students of sciences visit libraries more frequently than their counterparts of liberal arts, and application-oriented majors in the latter group visit libraries less frequently than those studying social sciences and humanities. Moreover, it also revealed that students' library access behaviors exert much positive influence on their academic performance and research capability. Considering these results, it is strongly recommended that the administration of university physical libraries should improve their service accordingly on the basis of the students'visiting behaviors and habits, thus furthering its role in promoting the teaching and academic research in universities.
