本文以语言类型学理论为框架，讨论了以下议题：1）英语介词的语法化、语义抽象度与其复现率之间的相关性；2）语义抽象度原则的运作机制及其解释力；3）英语双元／复杂介词的语序特征及其理据。研究者认为：1）双元／复杂介词中，P2后置于P1与前者的语法化程度、语义抽象度大于后者有关；2）英语中，单元介词、双元介词和复杂介词的语义抽象度形成一个“由高到低”的等级关系；3）英语中，“介-宾”与“动-宾”之间存在语序和谐关系。这种和谐关系也制约着与介词有关的复合词的语序结构。

This paper takes typological approach as its research framework. It mainly touches upon the following issues：i） the correlations between the grammaticalization of English prepositions and their frequency, the correlations between the semantic abstractness of English prepositions and their frequency ; ii ） the operation of Principle of Semantic Abstractness （PSA） and its interpretation effects of English prepositions;iii）the word order features of English du- al/complex prepositions and its motivations. The major conclusions are as follows：i）P2 following P in dual/complex prepositions is closely related to the fact that the former is higher in grammaticalization and more abstract in semantics than the latter; ii）the semantic abstractness of idiosyncratic preposition, dual preposition and complex preposition, from high to low, constitutes a hierarchy;iii）there is harmonic relation between ＂prepositon ＋ noun＂ order and ＂verb ＋ noun＂ order. The harmonic relation in turn restricts the word order of compounds that underlies nrenositions.
