The genetic relationship between Chinese and the Tai languages has long been controversial. This paper presents fifty sets of body part terms from Chinese and Thai, arguing for their genetic relatedness. It also proposes that lexical replacement and lexical semantics are to be taken into consideration when deciding upon the lexical sets of correspondence.
