湘军的建制和效能表明，传统儒法并用的伦理一政治手段尽管可以实现某种军事化组织以应对国内暴乱，但无法从根本上响应近代世界的政治军事变迁。中国国民党和中国共产党的建军实践，开启了中国现代国家架构的新篇章。但国民党无法走出民族革命的自我限制，从而也无法在世界主义的框架中理解国族安全问题。这个任务是由中国共产党完成的，从而也一般性地提出了让中国现代化军事力量成为实现人类自由的力量、让中华民族通过世界而新生的重大理论问题。

The organization and efficiency of Xiang Army show that the traditional ethical-political means of simultaneous working of Confucianism and Legalism can realize some militarized organization in order to suppress civil commotions, but it cannot fundamentally respond to political-military transmission of modern world. The military practices of KMT and CCP open the new page of Chinese modern state building. But KMT cannot break through its self-restriction of national revolution, so as not to appreciate the national security in the cosmopolitan architecture. This task is accomplished by CCP, and at the same time the vital theoretical problem is raised that Chinese modern military power should realize the freedom of all human being, and the Chinese people should achieved her new birth in and through the world.
