欧阳修虽位至三公,却没有官架子和官腔习气;他博学淹贯、精通多门,却没有变成“书呆子”;他“以文章道德为一世学者宗师”,却没有成为文阀学霸、“卫道士”、“假道学”。换言之,欧阳修既没有被官场腐化,也没有被道德异化,他始终保持着生命的灵性、敏锐的感性、睿智的理性和丰富的情感,他心态宽容、超越功利、情趣盎然、乐观豁达、生活简朴,其人格具有超越理性和道德的审美性。欧阳修审美人格对于现代人格建构无疑具有重要的启示意义。

Although Ouyang Xiu＇ s official rank was as high as one of the ＂the Three Dukes＂（ the Three Dukes were the most honorable and noblest ancient Chinese official on bureaucratic airs or spoke in a bureaucratic tone. He ＂was a great master of article and morality in his day＂ ; however, he didn＇ t turn out an overlord in literary and study, a moral defender or a sanctimonious person. In other words, neither was Ouyang Xiu corrupted by the official circles, nor was he alienated by morality. He kept all along vital intelligence, exquisite perception, wise rationality and exuberant affections. Ouyang Xiu, of whom personality has an aesthetic function, exceeding rationality and morality, was both tolerant and optimistic, beyond utility. He had good tastes and various interests,living a simple and plain life. There is no doubt that Ouyang Xiu＇ s aesthetic personality does have important enlightenment concerning construction of modern personality.
