中国哲学合法性问题一直存在争议。如果我们将哲学定义为对超时空与人群的人类根本问题的系统反思，那么中国思想是含有哲学之向度的，并且中国哲学有其表达系统反思的方式。哲学的比较应以不同哲学流派所面对的问题为基础，因为先秦诸子所处理的周秦之变的问题与欧洲现代化早期问题多有重叠，所以中国先秦思想不但有哲学成分，它更是一种以现代性为关怀的政治哲学。通过对先秦思想本质的分析，我们希望重新反思现代性的内涵，以及中国传统政治的现代相关性。

The first problem I deal with in this paper is the issue of the legitimacy of Chinesephilosophy as a philosophy. With the definition of philosophy as a systematic reflection on fundamentalhuman problems that transcend time, place, and a particular people, I will argue that there is aphilosophical dimension in traditional Chinese thought. I will also explain and defend the ways Chinesephilosophy expresses its systematic reflections. I will also respond to the criticism that the elucidation andsystematization effort in dealing with Chinese philosophy is detrimental to the depth of Chinesephilosophy. Moreover, I will argue that comparative philosophy should be problem-oriented, and theproblems with which the pre-Qin thinkers dealt resemble those in European early modernity. Thus, not0nly is Chinese philosophy a philosophy, but it is a political philosophy that is focused on issues ofmodernity. Through the analysis of the nature of pre-Qin philosophy, I also hope to direct the readers toa reevaluation of the nature of modernity, and of the relevance of pre-Qin philosophy to today＇s world.
