The Preliminary Surrender ; The Formal Surrender ; Zhijiang ; Nanjing

From August 21 to 23, 1945, General hnai Takeo, deputy chief of the general staff of the Japanese Expeditionary Army, flew to Zhijiang, Hunan province, to negotiate their surrender issues with Chinese military authority. According to the archival records and witnesses' personal experience, his mission was no more than to establish a channel of communication and make preparation for the ultimate formal surrender, which took place in Nanjing later. The city of Zhijiang has already known for its history of Japanese preliminary surrender, thus it is unreasonable to deliberately rename the city the location of Japanese formal surrender.
