渐进的进化史观可视为进化论思想与晚清文学改良运动之间的桥梁。当进化论思想介入晚清文学改良运动时,它一方面动摇了传统文学复古的价值根基,另一方面,又通过教育救国思潮,对文学的观念、语言、格局,乃至文学的学科体制等产生了多米诺骨牌似的连锁影响,所有这些,都为中国新文学的发生奠定了不可或缺的前提。

The evolutional view of history is a bridge between the thought of evolutionism and the movement of literature reform and innovation in the later Qing Dynasty. The thought of evolutionism has shaken the foundation of traditional literary value of classicism. On the other hand, by joining with the trend of saving the nation by education, it brought a series of domino impacts on the concept, language, framework and even subject system of literature. All of these provided indispensable foundation for the generating of Chinese new literature.
