通过采用语料库对比分析方法,调查中国学习者英语中一组近义词的广度与深度知识习得。结果显示,与英语本族语者相比,学习者近义词选择范围较窄,侧重于反复使用少数习得较早的高频词,随后以少数超用、使用不足词项为代表展开语境分析,结果进一步显示,学习者在搭配、词义等深度知识方面存在一定程度的不足。研究结果表明,学习者尚未能够基于纵横语义关系原理建立词语语义网络。此研究结果对我国英语词汇教学具有一定的启示。

The study examines the construction of Chinese English learners’L2 semantic network via a corpus-based contrastive approach to the analysis of width and breadth knowledge of a group of near-synonyms in the learners’writ-ten English.The results reveal that on a macro level compared with native speakers of English,the learners are more reli-ant upon a limited range of near-synonymous lexical items,which is characterized by a significant overuse of those high-frequency items acquired at an earlier L2 learning stage.The follow-up probing into the context of some of the overused and the underused items sheds light on the learners'deficiency in knowledge of word meaning and collocation,suggesting a gap in respect of depth knowledge of L2 vocabulary between them and native speakers.The results altogether indicate that the learners are not capable of establishing a L2 semantic network on the basis of the principle of paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations.These findings have implications for the L2 vocabulary instruction in Chinese context.
