郑杭生先生一直重视作为社会学学科基础构成部分的中国社会思想史的研究,在组织撰写《中国社会思想史新编》一书的过程中,他应用社会运行理论的知识视角,来诠释中国传统文化典籍中有关治乱盛衰的内容,通过意义的发现、阐明、转换,使有关治乱盛衰的内容有机镶嵌在社会运行的理论框架中。这样,社会运行理论成为社会思想史的知识框架与理论范式,而中国社会思想史成为社会运行理论的实在内容,通过综合考量某个社会精英或学术流派的思想学说和行动主张,逻辑呈现他们如何以社会运行与社会秩序为中心,从不同角度、不同层面回应社会问题,进而展开去乱求治的理性思考,从而使社会运行论与传统社会思想达到互构共契。郑杭生先生的这种努力把中国社会思想史的研究推向了一个新境界。

Mr. Hang-sheng Zheng has always attached great importance cial thought which is basic constitute Thought, he and his collaborators int nation in Chinese traditional books in part of sociology. In writing the book erpret the texts the perspective to the research New History of of China's so- Chinese Social on the order and disorder, prosperity and decline of of social operation theory, through discovering, clari- fying and transformation of meaning, to inlay organically the content of order and disorder, prosperity and decline of nation in the frame of the social operation theory. Then, social operation theory becomes the knowledge frame and theory paradigm of history of social thought and the history of social thought be- comes the concrete content of social operation theory. Through comprehensively discussing the theories and claim of action, of some elites or academic schools, this book presents logically how they centers on so- cial operation and social order and response to social problems in different perspective, different levels, then begin to think rationally on controlling disorder and achieving governance, which achieves the consil- ience and mutual-form of social operation theory and traditional social thought, and promotes the research of social thought history of China into a new stage.
