社会主义与市场的关系属于目的因与形式因的关系。作为形式因的市场或市场经济是中性的，作为目的因的社会主义制度是有价值属性、伦理属性、政治属性、阶级属性的，这些属性在深层决定着在市场或市场经济中展现出来的关系的内容和实质。由于社会主义制度与资本主义制度的本质差异，社会主义发展市场经济的主旨不像资本主义那样是为了少数资本家的资本增殖，而是为了不断满足人民群众日益丰富的物质文化需求，从而提升他们的幸福指数。同时，社会主义市场的运营需要政府的监管，既不能让市场放任自流而造成经济混乱和危机，也不能把市场统得过死而导致经济发展缓慢甚或停滞不前。从哲学上探讨社会主义与市场经济的关系无异于探寻先进的理念如何借助市场杠杆落地的问题。

The relations between socialism and market economy is the relation between aim cause and form cause from the view of philosophy; moreover, market or market economy as form cause is neutral, socialist system as aim cause has value property, moral one, political one and class one, which determine deeply content and nature of the relations emerging from market or market economy. Furthermore, market, as mode to allocate resources, is the result from commercial economy, so whatever the social system is, if it needs to develop market economy, market is the necessary element to it. In other words, market and market economy is not the criterion to classify social system. Because of nature difference form socialist system and capitalist one, the aim to develop market economy in socialism is to gradually satisfy more and more physical and cultural demands from the people so as to promote their index of happiness, otherwise he aim to develop market economy in capitalism is to make the capital more and more for minor capitalist. But it needs government to supervise market both preventing it from being arbitrary, which bring about economic chaos and crisis, and preventing it from being dominated entirely, which result in economic development slower or being at a standstill.
