英国教育思想从文艺复兴时代到20世纪下半叶先后出现过九个思想流派,即人文主义教育思想、绅士教育思想、空想社会主义教育思想、科学教育思想、古典教育思想、功利主义教育思想、民众教育思想、新教育思想和分析教育哲学教育思想。英国教育思想演进历程表现出明显的四个特征：英国人追求完美教育的历程,有一条隐形的人文主义思想主轴,教育思想的演进与社会发展进程相吻合,教育思想在批判、创新和传承中演进。

There had appeared nine schools of educational thought from the renaissance to the second half of 20 th century. They were the educational thought of humanism, the thought concerning gentlemen＇s education, the educational thought of utopian socialism,the thought of scientific education,the classical educational thought,the educational thought of utilitarianism,the thought of popular education,the thought of new education and the educational thought of analystic philosophy. There are four obvious characters of the evolution of British educational thought which could be seen,namely,British people had pursued a sound education. There was a invisible line of humanism. The process of evolution of educational thought kept the same pace as the process of the social development. The educational thought had evolved companying with the critique,creation and transmission
