On an international scale, there is a growing research interest in the historical dimension in mathematics education. Our research focuses on the aims and value orientation, content and principles, possible ways and quality criteria of integrating the history of mathematics into school textbooks. It is found that integrating the history of mathematics in textbooks serves mathematics itself and mathematics teaching, which can realize culture, inquiry and genetic instructional value. The history material should mainly be the original documents, and follow the principles of being scientific, appropriate and effective with the four approaches of complementation, duplication, accommodation and reconstruction to integrate the history of mathematics into textbooks.
