This is part of the study of the relevant Chinese categories in Shuowen J iezi from the functional-cognitive perspective. The general framework is the Conceptual Blending Theory from Cognitive Linguistics, and the particular descriptive methodology is the logico-semantic relations drawn from Systemic Functional Grammar. Two typical issues are discussed : the extension and enhancement integration, along a mixture phenomenon in hetween. In particular, the extension type involves addition and minus calculations ; and the enhancement types include metaphorical phenomena, cause-effect interactions, and meronymic relations. The analyses show the powerful application ability of the Conceptual Blending Theory, the latter of which should be understood in the broad sense,as the abundant cases illustrate in this article. This is a way to modernize the research of traditional Chinese linguistics in terms of modern language theories.
