中国是诗的国度，小说从先秦初创期就被融入诗歌体式，功能卓异，是作品中的突出亮点，且多构成情节高潮。就其对小说的艺术功用而言，非成熟后小说中的诗词歌赋所能比拟。产生于战国时期的《穆天子传》之《白云谣》，逸书《舜典》之《卿云歌》和《皋陶谟》中的《君臣歌》，都是其中的佼佼者。《晏子春秋》中小说颇多，引《诗》、唱歌成为塑造晏子形象的有力手段，并为文学语言平添了新的修辞技巧。
중국시시적국도，소설종선진초창기취피융입시가체식，공능탁이，시작품중적돌출량점，차다구성정절고조。취기대소설적예술공용이언，비성숙후소설중적시사가부소능비의。산생우전국시기적《목천자전》지《백운요》，일서《순전》지《경운가》화《고도모》중적《군신가》，도시기중적교교자。《안자춘추》중소설파다，인《시》、창가성위소조안자형상적유력수단，병위문학어언평첨료신적수사기교。
China has been a country of poetry. During the early stage of the Pre-Qin period, poems began to merge into fiction with its unique function. They were the prominent parts in the fictional works and mostly became the climax of the plot. In terms of artistic function, poems in the well-developed fictional works at later times could not be compared with them. The Song of White Clouds （《白云谣》） in the Tale of King Mu,Son of Heaven （《穆天子传》） , the Song of Qingyun （《卿云歌》） in the lost Shundian （《舜典》） of the Book of History （《尚书》） ,and the Song of Lord and Subjects （《君臣歌》） in Gaotaomo （《皋陶谟》）, were among the outstanding works. In many fictional works in the Spring and Autumn of Yanzi （《晏子春秋》）,there were quotations from the Book of Songs （《诗经》） . Singing became a powerful means to create the image of Yanzi （晏子）, and songs added new rhetoric skills to the literary language as well.
