从性别视角挑战传统人类学的研究始于20世纪70年代,迄今仍然方兴未艾。作者先借回溯历史与分析个案来勾勒性别地位与权力关系,较好地把握了大尺度与小尺度的关系。又借荟萃各种有价值的材料来树立论点：从谋取生活资料（如狩猎/采集）到权力运作（如隐/显、私事/公务）,从生物规则到跨文化解读,再到文化象征来探索性别差异的根基,揭示了血缘关系、居住模式、资源分配、财产与阶级关系对于性别分化的作用。最后归纳了人类学各家各派围绕着性别研究在理论方法上的贡献。

To challenge anthropology from the perspective of gender was started in the 1970s and has continued till today. This paper gives a brief account of the relations between the gender status and power, striking a delicate balance between both large and small scales. With various valuable materials for the argument, such as the means of subsistence like hunting - gathering and the maneuve- ring of power like implicit and explicit or personal and public affairs, from biological rules to cross - cultural interpretations, the paper analyzes the causes of gender differences from cultural symbolism, and reveals the roles of kinship relations, residence rules, the distri- bution of resources, and property and class relations in the gender stratification. Finally, it summarizes the theoretical contributions of various schools of anthropology to gender studies.
