20世纪20年代，北平营业性舞场逐渐兴起，舞者队伍扩大，交际舞业“迅速极盛”。该行业在丰富城市娱乐生活的同时，却诱发了奢靡、享乐、纵欲等不良风气的蔓延，导致北平市政府一再禁舞。30年代初，北平舞业“盛极而衰”。北平的官方、民众、媒体在此间的诸般心态及举措反映了交际舞在该市散播历经波折，呈现出这一时期北平新旧观念并存、博弈的社会风貌，也说明北平的传统保守气质使其社会风尚的嬗变显现出相对迟缓的态势。从根本上说，该市的社会生态系统制约着其社会风尚变迁的深度与广度。
20세기20년대，북평영업성무장축점흥기，무자대오확대，교제무업“신속겁성”。해행업재봉부성시오악생활적동시，각유발료사미、향악、종욕등불량풍기적만연，도치북평시정부일재금무。30년대초，북평무업“성겁이쇠”。북평적관방、민음、매체재차간적제반심태급거조반영료교제무재해시산파력경파절，정현출저일시기북평신구관념병존、박혁적사회풍모，야설명북평적전통보수기질사기사회풍상적선변현현출상대지완적태세。종근본상설，해시적사회생태계통제약착기사회풍상변천적심도여엄도。
Commercial ballrooms sprang up gradually in Peking in 1920s ,which was followed by an ex‐pansion of the number of people who participated in ballroom dancing .As a result ,ballroom dancing thrived rapidly in this age‐old city .This kind of business enriched the entertainment life of people living in Peking ;meanwhile ,it also induced the spread of extravagant ,hedonic and orgiastic social atmos‐phere ,w hich caused the government of Peking to give orders to forbid running ballroom business . Thus ,commercial ballroom business recessed in Peking in early 1930s .The psychology and behavior of the local government ,common people and media during that process reflected not only a zigzag sprea‐ding road of the ballroom dancing but also the social features that new view points and traditional view‐points coexisted and fought mutually in Peking at that time .What＇s more ,that process also proved that the traditional and conservative temperament of Peking brought about a relatively slow vicissitudinous procedure of the social custom in this archaic city .Primarily speaking ,it was the social ecological envi‐ronment that restricted the depth and breadth of social custom vicissitudes in this city .
