以语料库为基础，文章对“为……而……”结构中连词“而”的隐现规律进行了研究。结果表明：介词补足成分的长度、结构复杂度、条件概率（配价概率）P（为←V｜为）以及P（为←V｜V）等因素，可能都与“而”的使用有一定关系。这些因素均与语言处理的复杂度有关。复杂度越高，使用连词“而”的可能性越大，反之亦然。“而”作为结构标记，可能起到了降低语言处理难度，提高语言处理效率的作用。研究也表明，将基于语料库的计量研究方法与认知理论相结合是可行有益的，可以帮助我们发现某些传统研究方法难以发现的汉语结构规律，并深入了解这些规律背后的认知功能动因。

Based on Chinese corpora, this paper attempts an investigation into the possible mechanisms that governs the omission of Chinese conjunction ＂er＂（而） in ＂wei X （er） Y＂（为 X （而） Y） constructions. The results sug- gest that the use or omission of this conjunction has something to do with the length and the structural complexity of ＂wei X （er） Y＂ construction, and two condition probabilities （P（ wei~--V [wei） and P（ wei~V Iv））, which are all held as relevant to the difficulty of language processing. The greater this difficulty is, the more likely it is to use the conjunction ＂er＂, and vice versa. ＂Er＂ may serve as a structure signpost,which can increase processing efficiency and reduce processing load. This paper also shows that the combination of corpus - based quantitative approaches and cognitive theory can contribute much to the investigation into the structural regularities of Chinese and the pos- sible cognitive -functional mechanisms behind these regularities.
