整体上而言,台湾社会治安良好,从制度建设上考察,台湾社会治安管理非常注重法治建设,其社会治安管理的组织与运营有健全的法规体系作为保障。维护社会秩序稳定是警察的首要任务,台湾警察依法行使职权,尊重人权。除了社会秩序维护法,台湾的治安顾虑人口查访、警察临检、保安处分与更生保护等也是维护其社会稳定的制度保障。台湾在社会治安管理方面积累了许多有益的经验,可供内地借鉴。
