John Hawkes is a famous postmodernist writer in America.His works have unique themes which can induce deep reflections.Though his novels bare loose structure,they are not random,which renders readers to find story development in a nightmare world of the novel.This paper attempts to analyze the cause of leading hero Hugh＇s death in The Blood Oranges.According to the theory of Freud＇s personality structure,the ego,id and superego.In this unique love pattern,three aspects of Hugh＇s personality continually conflict and this conflict is more and more intensive.The conflict not only drives their relations and the development of the story,but also leads to Hugh＇s abnormal behavior.In the end,this conflict brings him to death.
