Deng Guangming owned his beginning of the study of the Song to Hu Shi in his memoir,yet in fact his interest was actually inspired by Meng Wentong＇s lectures on the Song dynasty.This fact is evidenced in related records,newspapers and letters.Through researching on those historical sources the origin of his thesis and Meng Wentong＇s lectures on the Song dynasty in Peking University have been discovered.This story remind us the importance of time and scene consciousness in researching academic history and materials to reach the real early career of a past scholar,avoiding misguided by his memoir in his old age.
