唐代的传奇小说是一种高雅文学,是唐诗的姊妹文体。正如鲁迅先生所说,＂小说亦如诗,至唐代而一变＂,这＂变＂即是＂叙述宛转,文辞华艳,与六朝之粗陈梗概者较,演进之迹甚明,而尤显者乃在是时则始有意为小说＂。这个＂有意为小说＂主要表现在三个方面：一是唐传奇在有唐一代形成了庞大的有高度文化素养的创作群体;二是在创作实践中总结出独特的小说美学理论;三是从文体上说,唐传奇吸收魏晋南北朝志怪小说的艺术经验,在新的历史时期创造出集叙事、抒情、议论于一身的完美文言小说文体。唐传奇实是唐人于诗歌之外的又一伟大贡献。

The legendary novels in Tang Dynasty are fine literature,and it is the sister style of Tang poem. Lu Xun once said,＂like poems,novels varied in Tang Dynasty. ＂This variation means euphemistical narration and gorgeous language. There is an obvious trace of evolution,compared with the rough sketch of the Six Dynasties;and there is a distinct intention for novels,which is shown in the following three aspects：（ 1） there is a huge literary group with highly cultural quality in Tang Dynasty;（ 2） they developed special aesthetic theories in their writing practice;（ 3） in style,they absorbed the artistic experiences of wierd fictions featured with ghost stories in Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties. In the new historical period,they created novels with narration,emotion expression,and argumentation,which is another great contribution by Tang people besides Tang poetry.
