科举与北京书院共存千余年,相互影响,相互激荡。北京书院因科举兴盛而起,因科举废除而终。在科举与北京书院的互动关系中,科举占据主导地位,主要体现为科举对书院教育的规范性影响。科举引领着北京书院的兴衰、发展方向、教学内容、考试内容,甚至考试程序;而北京书院则成为全国科举考试生源的来源地,许多书院生徒在此受到科举考试训练,并且由此荣登龙门,或成为官吏,或成为学者,为科举考试制度注入了活力,特别是在官学衰落的情况下更是如此。

The Imperial Examination and Beijing Colleges coexisted for thousands of years. They affected each other. Beijing Colleges thrived on the Imperial Examination. Along with the Qing Dynasty＇ s abolishing of the Imperial Examination, Beijing Colleges ended. In the interactive relationship, the Imperial Examination was in the leading position. It was mainly reflected on normative influence of the college education. The Imperial Examination influenced the rise and fall, development direction, content of courses, exam content and the test procedure of Beijing Colleges. While the Beijing Colleges became the main source of students in the Imperial Examination, many students had the test training in Colleges. They participated in the Imperial Examination to obtain fame. Beijing Colleges brought vitality into the Imperial Examination System, especially when the orthodoxies declined.
