The American art critic Susan Sontag is well versed in the art of modern dance and her relevant elaboration which consists of three perspectives is an important part of her criticism of visual arts. First of all, Sontag analyzes that Lucinda Childs＇ s dance is the art of refusal which means she refuses grandiose stage performance while her flexible command of space endows her dance with philosophical thought. Secondly, as to the relationship between dancers and dance, Sontag insists that outstanding dancers make themselves part of the dance in their performance as dance is their spiritual pursuit.
