The storytelling, the aesthetic effect, the use of language and the character are discussed with close reading in this paper. I analyze the material selection, the spiritual orientation and the style of writing according to the specific works. I appreciate the novels of Gonglin from the reading and the novel theory. I point out the excellences and the flaws in his no- vels, too. Moreover, I think every writer needs to search his own style. Searching for art is eternal. Every writer tries to cre- ate with the light of art.
