通过对居延汉简的题记文字和汉墓壁画、汉画像石、敦煌石窟壁画以及唐宋绘画中的图像解读,确认汉代的＂堂皇＂乃是一种正面敞开,用于接待宾客或治事的厅堂类建筑。

This paper firstly analyzes some kinds of literature materials like the signature words in theJuyan Bamboo Slips of the Han Dynasty and the images which appear in the mural paintings in tomb HanDynasty, the stone relief of the Han Dynasty, Dun Huang manuscripts and paintings in the Tang and SongDynasties. With the help of the textual research on these materials, this paper concludes that ＂TangHuang＂ of Han Dynasty is a specialized definition of the buildings like hall, whose facade is open andwhich is used for receiving guests and handling general affairs.
