在全球化背景下，后发性国家出现传统、现代与后现代等混杂的社会形态。电影成为表征这种形态的最佳媒介；电影叙事，就是借助虚构特权，设置特殊的现代性情境及危机，在人物与情节的演绎中，从一个特殊的角度解决全球语境中的现代性危机，由此形成自身的文化竞争力。当下中国电影与北美市场成功的外语片相比，最大的区别在于是否理性地看待传统。明确这一点，对当下中国电影来说，具有重要意义。
