本研究通过实验语音学研究方法,对88名大学生英语口语产出的语音可理解度和流利度进行了实验调查。结果显示:1)在孤立单词和语篇朗读中,音段可理解度分别是88%和89.4%,但11.6%的错词率极大降低了语篇的总体可理解度。2)在语速、停顿、连读三项流利度指标上,中国大学生与英国母语大学生相比均存在质和量的巨大差异,因而使其朗读的语篇具有明显的碎片化和滞阻性的非流利特征。3)英国语音专家和欧盟二语英语习得者对中国大学生朗读语料的感知评价显示,中国大学生的语音素质虽然达到了可以交流的门槛线,但与清晰、流利、准确、有效的跨语际交流目标相距甚远。研究者希望以上发现可对大学英语教学大纲的修订提供参照,对口语教学也有启示。

This paper reports the results of an acoustic ex- perimental study of 88 Chinese College students' produc- tive phonetic competence in English with a focus on the intelligibility and fluency of RP segments embedded in carder words and a passage. The results found were: 1 ) The intelligibility of English segments in carrier words in citation form and connected speech were 88% and 89.4% respectively,but the 11.6% of mis-pronounced words in the read passage strikingly reduced the listening compre- hension of the discourse. 2) There were hugely significant differences between Chinese students and British NSs in speech rates, pauses and Sandhi features, depicting the fragmental and disfluent speech flow of EG's read pas- sage. 3 ) The assessment given by native English phoneti- cians and European EFL learners demonstrated that Chi- nese students' phonetic competence had reached the threshold level,but there would be a long way to go for them to achieve clarity, fluency, accuracy and efficiency in their cross-linguistic communications in English with NSs and EFL learners with different Lls. It is hoped that the findings would shed light on CET curriculum revision and oral English teaching in Chinese universities.
