Based on the contents of Qinghua bamboo-slip Shi fa (Method of Divination), this work can be seen to be a work composed by occultists of the Warring States period (475-221 BCE) and this assessment can be verified by matching some of its contents with comparable passages in Heguan zi 鹖冠子. Its 3^rd and the 22^nd sections reveal that in the Warring States era there was a theory about the waxing and waning of moon phases expressed by the eight trigrams correlated with the ten heavenly stems [i.e., Najia 纳甲 theory], and therefore the Han [206 BCE-220 CE) scholars' Najia theory can be traced back to the pre-Qin [before 221 BCE] period. The related contents in the 12th section demonstrate that the huti 互体 (overlapping trigrams) approach, usually credited to the image-numerology of the Han scholarship on the Changes, had been employed in the Warring States times. In addition, according to the contents of the 8^th and 11^th sections, it can be seen that there were both similarities and dissimilarities between the images of the eight trigrams in the Shi fa and those illustrated in the Shuo gua (Discussion of the Trigrams) and Han scholarship on the Changes. Moreover, the uniqueness of the method of divina tion shows that the Shi fa ought to be attributed to a divinatory system different from that of the received version of the Zhou Changes.
