共同体的本质就是共同性，不管是“自然性”还是“人性”角度，它都摆脱不了对概念的追问。由“自然而然”的民族共同性转向由人的道德规则要求遵守的共同性，使个人主义代替了自然的共同性成为人与人关系的主题，由此可以推论，对个人权利的尊重破坏了共同体的共同性；极端的共同性也造成了强制压力下的反抗，致使传统共同体走向衰落。重建共同性是在多样性前提下，为解决人与人的矛盾而提出的可以选择的方案。方案中必须承认现实的强制性功能，发挥自愿的服务功能的作用，转向身份认同的共同性路径。
