This article reviews the most recent research studies on Patent Mapping application in the R＆D opportunity discovery both at home and abroad. It focuses on the research progress in three important aspects： data source analysis and search strategy definition; patent data mining and patent analysis; R＆D opportunity discovery analysis. It then explores the hot issues and some limitations in the above mentioned fields and finally identifies several directions for future research.
