Guangxi is one of the areas where archaeology began earlier than the other regions of China. Through decades of archaeologists' efforts, remarkable achievements have been obtained in Guangxi archaeology. So far, excavation and study of Paleolithic remains have made great breakthroughs in the Baise area, a cultural sequence has been preliminarily established for Neolithic Guangxi, and con-siderable results have also been gained in archaeology of the Western Zhou, Warring States, Qin-Han and later periods. In the 21s' century, as an area inhabited by minority nationalities in the southwestern bor-derland, Guangxi should strive to develop its archaeology synchronously with whole Chinese archaeologyand strengthen ethnoarchaeological researches so as to advance the discipline to a new stage.
