The Xiaojin site is an important Neolithic hill-slope site in northern Guangxi. Judging from the stratigraphical evidence and cultural relics revealed, its remains can be divided into three phases. The first and second phases are of the middle and late Neolithic Age, and the third corresponds to the ending period of Neolithic times, with the final stage maybe belonging to the Shang-Zhou period. The earlier two phases are basically the same in cultural aspect, and represent a new cultural type in northern Guangxi, which was distributed in the upper Zijiang River valley and can be named “Xiaojin culture.”The excavation of the site provides a new coordinate for establishing the temporal and spatial frame of the prehistoric Guangxi culture and important data for researching into the cultural relationship of northern Guangxi with the Dongting Lake area. In addition, the plenty of carbonized rice grains discovered on the site is of great significance to studying the origin of rice farming and the spread of rice-growing culture.
