北宋是中国戏剧形成的最重要时期。作为新型城市的代表，北宋开封是座充满活力与自信的不夜城，这使得戏院广泛分布和夜场演出成为可能。北宋开封作为世界历史上第一个典型的市民城市，代表城市文化的市民文艺在此应运而生。固定的民间剧场是戏剧产生的硬件标志，最早在宋代开封呈现的瓦子勾栏，正是其具体的诞生场地。宋杂剧是中国戏曲的最早形式，其三个源头即优伶的喜剧小品、民间杂扮、诸宫调的出现，均离不开东京开封。北宋后期的开封，杂剧涌现出一大批名角，演出地点也更加多样，并出现剧情复杂的大型戏，对戏剧的成长起着重要的促进作用。金代汴京是当时戏剧的中心，元杂剧中汴京是最为常见的故事发生地，是元杂剧的中心舞台。在中国戏剧演变的历史长河中，汴京处于枢纽地位。

Northern Song Dynasty is the most important period of the formation of Chinese traditional dramas. As a representative of new cities, Kaifeng was full of energy and confidence even in the evenings in Northern Song Dynasty. This made it possible for many theaters and evening performances to appear. As the first typical urban city in the world history, Kaifeng formed citizen literature and art of the urban culture in Northern Song Dynasty. It also formed the earliest fixed folk theater, so Kaifeng of Northern Song Dynasty was the specific birth place of Chinese traditional dramas. Drama of Song Dynasty was the earliest form of Chinese traditional dramas. It came from Kaifeng`s comedy sketch, folk art and opera music. In the later period of Northern Song Dynasty, a lot of famous drama artists appeared in Kaifeng, the place of performance was more diverse. More and more complex dramas also appeared. These factors played an important role in the development of dramas. In the Jin Dynasty, Kaifeng was still the center of dramas. In the Yuan Dynasty, Kaifeng was the most common place of many stories and the center stage of dramas. In the evolution of Chinese drama history, Kaifeng occupied the most important position.
