2013年4月,南京市博物馆于大报恩寺遗址北区的北侧发现一座砖砌水井,编号为J6.该井分为上下两段,下段建于北宋,上段为明代加建而成.J6的下段保存完整,砌造精良,规模在该遗址所有已发现宋井中最大.通过与文献比对,该井很可能为北宋高僧可政与名相李迪连手创建的"义井",在南京历史上留下过一段著名的佳话.

Nanjing Municipal Museum discovered a brick constructed well in the northern side of the archaeological site of the Grand Bao'en Temple in April 2013, and numbered it as J6. The well is composed of two parts with the down part built in the Northern Song and the upper part added in the Ming. The down part was fine constructed and has been well preserved. It is the largest well among the Song wells discovered at this site. The well is very likely to be the Benevolence Well (yijing) built by the eminent monk Ke Zheng and the then counselor-in-chief Li Di as recorded in historical literature as a beautiful anecdote.
