广西北海老街一般指以珠海路为代表的北海老城区，被历史学家及建筑学家们誉为“近现代建筑年鉴”。老街记录了北海开埠以来的发展进程；老街的建筑吸收了岭南建筑的特点和西方建筑的一些艺术风格；老街的建设过程与西方文化传入中国的进程相联系；老街记录着帝国主义侵略中国的进程；老街的形成，奠定了北海城市生活的基础。在申报中国历史文化名城的背景下，北海市对老街的保护和开发利用给同类城市历史文化名街的保护和开发提供了一个成功的范例。

The old street of Beihai Guangxi, which generally refers to the Zhuhai Road representing the old Beihai city, is dubbed “modern architecture yearbook” by architectural historians and scientists. The old street records the process of imperialis-tic aggression against China and the process of Beihai city’s development since its port was opened as well as the incoming process of western culture. Its formation laid the foundation of Beihai city life. The buildings on the street absorbed some architecture characteristic of the south of five ridges and the western art styles. To those cities applying for China’s historical and cultural city, Beihai City sets a successful example for them to conserve, develope and utilize urban historical and cultural streets.
