3-methyl-1-pentene-4-yn-3-ol is one of the significant intermediates in the synthesis of carotenoids. With the growing market demand for carotenoids, the new synthesis methods of 3-methyl-1-pentene-4-yn-3-ol were reported continuously. According to different means for introducing acetenyl, the advantages and disadvantages in synthesis of 3-methyl-1-pentene-4-yn-3-ol via four different kinds of ethinylation were sketched. The possibility of realizing the industrialization production of various synthetic methods was compared. This provided the reference for the further study and application.
