According to the operating state of the system, a multi-mode control system can select the most suitable control method in real time and integrate the advantages of different control strategies to enable the performance of the system to satisfy higher requirements. When designing a multi-mode control structure, the division of modes and the selection of control strategies in each mode influence the control effect of the multi-mode structure directly. The division of modes depends on designers’ understanding and analysis of plants and industrial backgrounds; the particular control methods include gain scheduling, sliding mode control, artificial intelligence and multi-model control. By combining the research status of various areas, the characteristics and application forms of the four methods are introduced, which has great reference value to the design of the multi-mode control system.
