古代西南地区信仰复杂, 既有原始的民间信仰和民间宗教组织, 又有外来宗教的不断介入.从信仰的发源来说,西南地区主要有先贤崇拜、自然崇拜、图腾崇拜和鬼信仰等几个来源.西南民间鬼魅信仰,在文学叙事中以故事方式表达出来,有很强的文化内涵. 汉族移民外来信仰的流入,先贤崇拜的泛滥,以及佛道信仰的影响,使西南鬼神信仰发生了很大的变化,以至于信仰多元而复杂.

In southwestern China, beliefs are complex, which both include primitive folk beliefs and folk religious organizations, but also the continued intervention of foreign religions. Southwestern folk belief in ghost has profound cultural connotations expressed through the narration of stories. The inflow of foreign faith with the Han immigration, flooding sages worship, and the impact of Buddhist belief brought about great changes in beliefs in this area, adding to the diversity and complexity of people's beliefs there.
