2 Broke Girls%humor%Cooperative Principle%violation
One of the reasons why human language is by nature distinct from animal language lies in that human language can pro-duce language arts, one of which is humor. Employing the American sitcom 2 Broke Girls as the context and Grice's Cooperative Principle (CP) as the theoretical framework, this paper conducts a qualitative research of humor with some extracts of conversation from the sitcom, in an attempt to verify the hypothesis whether violation of the CP may lead to production of humor. The finding of the research justifies the particular hypothesis that there exists causal relationship between violation of the CP and production of humor.
