The specification of plain dents by the domestic and foreign standards and the existing problems were summa -rized.Through the finite element method , the produce process of plain dent with different depth on pipeline was simulated , and the stress change curve of center point of the plain dent under the inner pressure was simulated .The influence of unconstrained and constrained ordinary dents on burst pressure was researched .The conclusion that the plain dents have no effect on the burst pressure of pipelines and constrained ordinary dents with depth of more than 20%OD have great effects on the pipe burst pressure were drawn .Suggestions to deal with the plain dents was put forward .
