2014年6月,湖北职业技术学院试水为毕业生授予“工士”学位,由此引发出一场持续半年之久的“工士”学位之争。然而,这场声势浩大的大讨论仅是关乎设立专科学位制度的意义和价值的争论,却规避了“工士”学位这一学位名称是否得当的问题。在国家明确了研究和建立符合职业教育特点的学位制度的政策之后,为专科高职设立专门学位已是大势所趋,真正要讨论的正是如这一学位名称如何确定的更为细节性和操作层面的问题。而我国有关专科高职的学位名称如何定名并没有达成学界共识,当前有三条选择路径:一是引进和改造西方的“副学士学位”;二是再次论证“工士”学位的可行性;三是创生新的学位名称,如“专士”学位。

In June 2014, Hubei Polytechnic Institute tried to award “Skilled Degree” to the graduates, which led to a half year’s dispute of the “Skilled Degree”. However, this is a massive discussion on the significance and value of establishing a higher vocational degree system, while whether the name of “Skilled Degree” is appropriate has not mentioned much. After the country came up with some policies which state definitely that it is necessary to do research on and establish a degree system tailored for higher vocational education, setting up a specialized degree for it has become a general trend. It is the details and operational level issues such as the name of the degree that should be further discussed indeed. Yet how to name the degree has not reached the academic agreement. There are currently three selecting paths: first, introduction and transformation of western “Associate’s Degree”; second, another round of verifying the possible feasibility of “Skilled Degree”; third, creation of new degree names like “Specialized Degree”.
