历史上，城市街道是最重要的公共空间之一。然而在现代城市化发展的今天，这一功能却在不断衰退。巴塞罗那自20世纪80年代开始城市更新运动，为了解决由于城市扩张而不断增加的快速交通需求和由此产生的公共活力衰退之间的矛盾，结合自身条件，采用整合小型公共空间与交通基础设施、重塑以步行为主的城市街道公共空间轴线、创造公共空间复合型的多层次城市快速路系统和依托城市铁路更新构建生态廊道等措施，以景观基础设施作为城市更新的媒介，成为实现城市魅力再生的典范。这些经验对中国探索紧凑型城市空间利用，在高密度的现代城市环境中建设公共空间，实现城市品质提升和更新发展，具有重要的借鉴意义。

Urban street is one of the most important public spaces in history, but this function is lost gradualy in the development of modern urbanization nowadays. Barcelona had begun Public Space Revitalization Initiative since 1980s. To solve the contradiction between demand of transit which caused by rapid urban expansion and recession of public ambitions, Barcelona integrated the smal public spaces and transportation infrastructures, rebuilt the walking street as axis, created the multi-level city expressway system and ecological greenway through the railway rebuilt project based on the existing railway corridor. It promoted the urban revitalization through landscape infrastructure, became the model city of regeneration. These experiences are helpful to explore the compact utilization of the urban space, develop the urban public space in high density cities and promote the quality of urban lives in China.
