A new weakly photo-sensitive hybrid rice combination, Yuanfengyou 86, derived from the cross of a CMS line Yuanfeng A and a restorer line Minghui 86, was developed by Sanming Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It was characterized by high yield, high seed-setting rate, strong cold tolerance, and good plant color at maturity. It was released in Guangxi Province in 2010 and in Fujian Province in 2011. The breeding process, main characteristics, key cultivation and seed production techniques of Yuanfengyou 86 were introduced.
