通过实证研究，调查读者对同一首古诗不同译本的选择及原因，发现古诗英译在求真，求美，求押韵的同时，更重要的是应考虑潜在读者的文化背景、阅读习惯及对译文的期待等要素，西方汉学家在英译中国古诗时有目的语优势，但国内学者因文学功底和中国文化背景，在中国古诗英译大潮中大有赶超西方汉学家之势。中西方译者均应在忠实原诗的基础上，最大程度呈现原诗意境，展现原诗形式之美，如是的译文在中国读者中接受度更高。

By an empirical research on reader s’ preference for different English versions of the same Chinese classic poem,conclusions can be made as follows: Translators should give priority to potential readers’ cultural background,reading habit and expectation in addition to the pursuit of faithfulness,elegance or rhyme. Western translators have English advantage in translating Chinese classic poems,while translators at home have the potential to catch up with Western sinologists due to their better Chinese cultural backgrounds and literature foundation in the process of English translation of Chinese poetry. The present paper suggests that both Western and domestic translators adhere to the principle of faithfulness when translating the original poem,and try their best to present its artistic atmosphere and form beauty,then their translations have a higher degree of readers acceptation in China.
