陈柱作为清末学者，继承了朴学的方法，包括慎重改字、重视证据、重视注疏的证明作用，“以音求义、以形辨讹”的训诂法，会通义例以及事实校验。同时陈柱吸收了西方的方法论，发展了朴学的方法，包括重视历史流变的字义考证法，重视新义的思想辑注法，重视探求真理的现代哲学方法，重视解决现实问题的实践方法。陈柱的朴学方法论既是中西方文化融合的一个缩影，又代表了一种理性的态度。

Chen Zhu, a scholar of late Qing Dynasty, inherits some exegetical methods, including such methods as carefully mod-ifying characters, focusing on evidences, valuing the attesting function of exegesis, "determining meanings by sounds and correcting errors by glyphs ", checking out semantic examples and verifying by facts. Meanwhile, Chen Zhu develops some exegetical methods by adopting the methodology of the western world, including such methods as verifying lexical meanings by historical evolution, edit-ing and annotating on the basis of the ideology of valuing new meanings, modern philosophic method of valuing exploration of the truth and practical method of focusing on solving current problems. Chen Zhu's exegetical methodology is not only an epitome of integrating Chinese culture with western culture but also a representation of rational attitude.
