With the automation drilling technology applications on the offshore drilling platform, the pipe automatic transferring system is rapidly developed. As the first procedure device in pipe automatic transferring system, the knuckle boom crane plays a very important role. In this paper, the technical level of knuckle boom crane at home and abroad is introduced, and induc-tion and analysis on the knuckle boom crane are carried out, finally the future development trend is prospected.
