Cognitive deixis, one of the important aspects of cognitive poetics, connect content and ground of a discourse. Its main function is to turn nouns into nominal groups, and verbs into finite clauses in order to activate the ground. In Yeast's poem Leda and the Swan, the large quantities of deixis not only put the style in the foregrounding but also presuppose the poet's motivation. With the deictic shift theory, Yeats succeeds in crossing time and space, thus vividly presenting his theme.
