公示语的翻译直接关系到一个城市乃至一个国家的文化形象和国际地位。尽管公示语的翻译越来越受到人们的关注，但是，依然有很多城市的公示语英译不容乐观。该文对公示语翻译错误进行分析后认为Jef. Verschuren的顺应理论对公示语翻译具有很重要的指导性。最后从语言语境顺应、交际语境顺应、动态语境顺应三个角度探讨了语境顺应理论在公示语英译中的应用。

Translation of public signs is directly related to the cultural image and the international position of a city or even a coun?try. Though it has aroused more and more concern in recent years, the translation of the public signs in some cities are far from be?ing satisfactory. After analyzing the inappropriateness and mistakes in the translation of the public signs, the author thinks the Con?text Adaptation Theory proposed by Jef. Verschuren is suitable to guide the translation of public signs. Finally, the application of the Context Adaptation Theory on C—E public signs translation has been explored from the perspective of adaptation of linguistic, communicative as well as the dynamic contexts.
