Graphene possesses the characteristics of great specific surface area and excellent chemical stability, which has been a promising environmental adsorbent. Recently, the development of various composite adsorbents based on graphene expanded the application of graphene in the environmental water treatment. The research development on the application of the graphene materials in the adsorption removal of organic pollutants and heavy metal ions in aquatic environment were outlined. Then the research trend and hotspots in this research field were summarized.
